Questions
Who is my MLA?
Your MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) is the person elected to represent your provincial riding in your province's legislature. Ontario calls them MPPs, Quebec MNAs and Newfoundland and Labrador MHAs. Enter your postal code above to see who yours is, with their email, phone and website.
What's the difference between my MLA and my MP?
Your MP sits in the House of Commons in Ottawa and works on federal matters. Your MLA sits in your provincial legislature and works on provincial ones. They are elected separately, and your provincial riding can have a different name and boundary from your federal one.
What does my MLA handle, and what does my MP handle?
Provinces run health care, schools, provincial highways, most social services and natural resources, and they set the rules for cities. Your MLA is the person to contact about those. Passports, immigration, Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan, federal taxes and criminal law are federal, so those go to your MP.
How do I contact my MLA?
After you enter your postal code, the result shows their email, phone and website. Every MLA has a constituency office in the riding that helps residents with provincial services, and it costs nothing to ask for help.
